The Effectiveness of Hotel Restaurant Glossary Cards in Enhancing Young Learners’ Vocabulary Mastery

The study is aimed at examining the effectiveness of the hotel restaurant glossary cards in enhancing young learners' mastery of vocabulary in early childhood education. The study was carried out using pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects in this research were 20 students of kindergarten in TK Fatimah 7 Palembang. Data was collected from pre and post-test of vocabulary. The pre-test scores showed that students' vocabulary knowledge was limited with the average score of 3.5/10. The results of the post test showed that the average score was 5.9/10 there was a gain after the intervention. Pupils' word recognition and understanding is clearly enhanced. Furthermore, based on the observation results in the classroom, students' interest and their involvement in learning activity were found increasing by using the glossary cards. Results showed that the hotel restaurant glossary card is effective and interesting learning mediums used in the process of learning the vocabulary for young learners. The results of this study indicate that the use of learning materials with visual support and contextual in early childhood language learning is important.
