Connotative Meaning in the Novel Archipelagos 3: The Power of Imang in Nusantara by Sleepinigloo (A Semantic Study)

This study aims to describe the forms of positive and negative connotative meanings and to analyze the functions of connotative meaning in the novel Archipelagos 3: The Power of Imang in Nusantara by Sleepinigloo, based on the theory of J. D. Parera. A descriptive-qualitative method was employed, utilizing "read-and-note" data collection techniques and content analysis for data processing. The research data consisted of excerpts from the novel containing connotative meanings. The results indicate that the novel Archipelagos 3: The Power of Imang in Nusantara contains both positive and negative connotative meanings manifested in words and phrases. Furthermore, the study identified connotative meaning functions consistent with Parera's theory, specifically: stimulating and evoking the senses, stereotypes, popular beliefs, and personal interests.
